The Phone-Life Balance hero film.
Challenge
Motorola invented the mobile phone. Forty-four years later, Apple and Samsung owned the conversation. Heritage wasn't earning relevance, and we didn't have a category-leader budget to buy it back. We needed a position no competitor could credibly copy.
Insight
Smartphone anxiety was going mainstream, and no phone maker would touch it. Our global study with Harvard's Dr. Nancy Etcoff proved how deep it ran. 53% of people called their phone their best friend. 65% panicked when they lost it. A third admitted choosing their phone over the people they love. Only the company that started the mobile era could name the problem.
Idea
Phone-Life Balance. Motorola makes phones that support your life without becoming the center of it.
Execution
With Ogilvy, we made the problem impossible to ignore. Hyperrealistic statues of people frozen mid-scroll appeared on New York streets while hidden cameras rolled. A Rob Bliss film watched the world watch its phones. A self-assessment at phonelifebalance.motorola.com turned awareness into action.
My job was making it travel. I built the global content model that let every market run the platform with local relevance and global consistency, improving media efficiency instead of multiplying production costs.
